Turmeric Cinnamon Latte

November 15, 2016 by Chelsea 8 Comments

turmericcinnamonlatte2Turmeric is one of those ingredients that seems to be everywhere, these days. I’ve always had a jar of it in my kitchen stash for recipes like curries, meat rubs, and soups, but since it’s such a potent spice that actually packs a lot of health benefits, I’ve been experimenting with it a little more.

Turmeric is, as it turns out, pretty tasty to drink.

It may seem weird, and it is! Turmeric has a pretty pungent, ginger-like flavour, so if you’re not a fan of the spice, you probably won’t like these lattes. That said, I love the slightly bitter taste of turmeric, and when combined with a touch of sweet cinnamon, these lattes are the perfect winter warmer.

turmericcinnamonlatte3Some recent studies on the health benefits of turmeric suggest that the spice may have immune-boosting, anti-inflammatory properties, and it can help sooth an upset tummy and tame heartburn. I like to consume it whenever my face breaks out, or when I’m feeling a little under the weather.

I’m not sure if there’s any science behind it, but I have noticed that after adding some turmeric to my diet, my face clears up and any unwanted breakouts disappear!

In order for turmeric to be beneficial as an anti inflammatory, you must add an oil of some sort as turmeric is fat soluble….A tsp. of coconut oil will do well and even enhance the flavor of the drink.

But what about milk fat, if the regular milk was added? Does that count?
