Eggnog White Russian

December 14, 2015 by Chelsea 10 Comments

EggNogWhiteRussian3For the most part of the year, my drink-of-choice is a full-bodied glass of wine or refreshing bottle or beer, but on rare occasions I like to raid the liquor cabinet. Occasionally, after a particularly strenuous day at work, I’ll vent about it to a glass of scotch. Not often, but sometimes. Plus, I live with a man who is quite fond of his hard bar, so we always have various bottles of whiskey/rum/tequila on hand.

*Side note, I got into a discussion with someone the other day about the term “hard bar”. I’ve been calling liquor “hard bar” all my life, but apparently it’s not a well-known term! Huh!

EggNogWhiteRussian2There are times, though, when a nice cocktail is where it’s at. Whenever I’m at the in-laws for dinner, I’m always blessed with some sort of fruity San Pellegrino / tequila fusion drink that makes me think I’m lying on a beach in Mexico. There’s just something about a nice cocktail that seems fun (even if it’s missing a little umbrella).

Especially around the holidays, when wine and beer is replaced with mulled ciders, rum and eggnog, or holiday sangria. Now, to add to that list? An eggnog white russian.

With Christmas only 11 days away, you can bet this is on my holiday list of treats!

EggNogWhiteRussian4A classic white russian is made of vodka, coffee liqueur, and cream. It’s an indulgent, dessert-like cocktail, one gently sipped beside a crackling fire. It’s a cold drink, but even still, it’s cozy and sure to warm you up from the inside out.

To keep this drink feeling festive, I used eggnog in lieu of cream. It kind of tastes like an eggnog latte, but with a few extra ingredients that help it go down pretty dang smooth. Trust me. I’ve added a bit more eggnog and coffee liqueur than a traditional white russian recipe, as I prefer the taste.

Just a note, unlike traditional drinks where you pour the booze over ice cubes, with this drink you’ll want to add the ice cubes after you mix the booze with the eggnog. Because it’s so creamy, it takes a fair amount of stirring to get it all mixed together, and the ice cubes will only get in the way.

Cheers, friends! It’s only Monday, but that doesn’t mean we can’t indulge! It is the holidays, after all…

Try topping this off with some “pumpkin pie spice” for a slightly different spin!

Thank you Dorothy! Cognac and eggnog is wonderfully similar to the taste of rum and eggnog, and there’s a reason that’s a classic! Yum! You could even try adding a bit of chocolate sauce to the drink for a chocolate-laced cognac and eggnog. Sign me up!

I’m very partial to any drink that involves either eggnog, or Kahlua. The recipe I have come to love takes things a bit further:

    Over 3 ice cubes pour:
    1 shot vodka
    1 shot Kahlua
    1 shot The Kraken Rum

In a separate glass mix equal parts 2% milk and eggnog, stir until blended, then pour the mixture in with the liquor. Lightly stir and enjoy!

    It’s AMAZING 😉
