Oreo Blizzards

July 18, 2014 by Chelsea 3 Comments

oreoblizzards3Summertime, and the livin’ is easy. I find myself singing that lovely tune a lot lately, when enjoying the long summer days and warm summer nights. I could get used to this.

Blizzards. McFlurries. Ice cream blended with cookies, candy or fruit: the signs of summer.

Today I’m sharing a simple recipe, but in the midst of a hot summer, aren’t those the best kind of recipes? This one really is simple, needing only two ingredients, but a whole lot of will power.

oreoblizzards2I say this often: classics are classic for a reason. Oreos and vanilla ice cream? Classic. They’re like chocolate and peanut butter, eggs and bacon, butter and popcorn. They just fit.

My all-time favourite type of Blizzard/McFlurry is Oreo, so of course this recipe uses Oreos. But, as with any Blizzard/McFlurry, the possibilities are endless! Coffee Crisp, Cookie Dough, Smartie, Strawberry, Reeses Peanut Butter Cup (oh, I’m trying that next), you can use whatever you’re craving. Just make sure you use lots of it – the chunkier the better.

oreoblizzards5I recently bought a cheap, 3-cup food processor, and even though it’s tiny and doesn’t fit much, it’s so great when making pestos, tapenades, and these lovely ice cream concoctions. Just chop the cookies for a bit, add in the ice cream, mix, and voila. It couldn’t be easier. Or tastier.

Depending on the ice cream you’re using, you may need to add in a little milk or cream to thin it out. I’ve been making these on hot enough days that the ice cream is already slightly soft before it goes in the food processor, but if you need to add a little liquid to thin it out go ahead. Just but be sure not to add too much – the ice cream will soften when mixed and you don’t want a melty mess.

oreoblizzards1Hot dang. Who can resist these classic summer treats! I know I can’t.

Ice cream blended with Oreo cookies. A classic summer treat made in minutes! Oreos are easily swapped for any type of candy.
Ingredients
  • 2 cups vanilla ice cream
  • 3 oreo cookies
Instructions
  1. Place cookies in a food processor (or blender) and chop until desired consistency. The chunkier the better.

Delicious! I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a delicious treat! I personally like to make mine chocolate: 6 Oreos, one scoop of chocolate ice cream, and 1/4 cup of milk!
