If I ever wake up in the middle of a hot summer night in an uncomfortable sweat with an uncurbable craving, it’s for a Tim Horton’s Iced Capp. My fellow Canadians, you know what I’m talking about. These things are so good and so addicting, if you haven’t had one you’re basically missing out on one of the most amazing things to ever come out of Canada.
Ok, well maybe not the most amazing thing. A Google search proves there’s quite a few cool things to come out of Canada, like poutine, the Wonderbra, Nathan Fillion and even peanut butter. But at the top of my list? The Iced Capp. These things are like liquid gold mixed with creamy crack, I swear.
If you’ve never had one before, you may have had something similar from, say, Starbucks. It’s basically coffee, cream, sugar, and ice cubes blended together until delicious. Sounds simple enough, but Tim Horton’s nailed it with their ingredient ratio.
I found some copycat recipes on the internet but none of them really did it for me, so I played around a bit until I found a combination that tastes pretty darn similar to the original.
Healthy? Heck no. Insanely good and totally worth it? Oh yes.
Blended Iced Cappuccino | | Print |
- ⅛ cup hot water
- 2 Tbsp instant coffee
- 1-2 Tbsp sugar, to taste (2 Tbsp is quite sweet but delicious)
- 8-10 ice cubes
- ½ cup chocolate milk
- ¼ cup cream
- Mix hot water and instant coffee in a small bowl until dissolved. Pour into a blender.
- Add sugar, ice cubes and chocolate milk and blend until frothy. Add in cream, blend until creamy.
- Pour into a glass serve.

Thanks for recipe. I live in Tn now but from NY and I have been trying to get them to build a Tim Hortons down here. I love the iced cappuccino. The south does NOT know what/how to make them.

I just have to say that this Iced Capp recipe is phenomenal. I’ve been a frozen coffee beverage addict for years and every home recipe has been off in some way-except this one. I adjust it a bit by only using 1 tbs of instant coffee, 2 tbs of Maple syrup instead of sugar, and 1/4 cup milk instead of cream, but that’s only a preference. The original is perfect too!!!!

I’m on Atkins diet at the moment so I had to substitute milk for choc milk, 1 tbsp coffe only and sweetener for sugar. I admit it does taste different from timmys only because it lacks the horrendous amount of sugar that I was used to. Definitely a keeper and I’m going to try making it vegan by adding soy milk and soy creamer (for my next get together with my vegan friends).

This is delicious! I love our Tim’s iced capp. and this is very similar. I did alter it a bit by using 2% milk with about 1 tsp of chocolate syrup and I used 18% coffee cream for a little less fat. Yum!

Good question! For these pics, I used light cream, with about a 20% fat content. Any higher than that and it could be too rich. You could also use half & half or even milk, but be aware that the lower the fat content, the more likely your drink will separate.

Can I use normal white milk if I don’t have chocolate milk and can I use real coffee can I don’t like instant coffee.

Hi Bailey, yes to both! It will have less of a chocolatey taste and be a little bit more watery, but it still works!

This is a great substitute, I have been on a Tim’s ice cap binge for the last week and it was too expensive! This is great even just poured over ice. I never leave comments, but this is a great copy cat recipe! The others didn’t quite do it for me like you said, this is much closer to the original.

Thank you so much for this recipe!! I’ve been really missing my tim hortons Oreo ice cap and this recipe (plus some Oreos) tasted almost identical!! I even used the tim hortons original blend coffee that I bought last time we were in Michigan. For some reason mine wouldn’t thicken up so I added a lot more ice than called for but I’m gonna try freezing some coffee and chocolate milk for next time. Thank you again!!!

I tried out this recipe yesterday morning, it tasted very close to a Tim Horton’s iced Capp but it didn’t have the same consistency. It was more like an iced coffee. I was wondering if there was anything that I could’ve done to prevent the watery consistency?

I would try to only use just enough water to dissolve the instant coffee instead of strictly sticking to the 1/8 cup listed!

During the warmer months I drink way too many Timmie’s Iced Capps, if that’s possible! Tried this recipe today because 20*C in Nova Scotia nearly mid November is definitely something to celebrate. Used only 1Tbsp. of instant coffee but it was still much stronger than Timmie’s. Was thinking maybe it should read 2 tsp. but no one else commented on this. Am I the only one that found it too strong? Other than that it’s great and I’ll likely make it again soon with a bit less instant coffee. Thanks for sharing!
